Working for Artisan Real Estate Investors delivering consultation and community benefits services on the £240 million mixed use retail, leisure and residential scheme adjoining Waverley Station in Edinburgh’s Old Town.
As well as retail, office and hotel accommodation, the project included the creation of significant areas of public realm with a new public square as its centrepiece.
We designed and ran a number of consultation events to both explain wider proposals and better understand the needs of the local residential and business communities.
Our work with stakeholders identified the challenges of living in a community that has become more transient and tourist dominated. Part of the solution has been the creation of a community run “urban village hall” and business space funded by Artisan and run by the Old Town Development Trust (EOTDT).
Streets-UK designed and implemented the process to identify EOTDT as the preferred community operator.
