Virtual consultation

Kilmalcolm

Mactaggart & Mickel have owned the site at Quarry Drive in Kilmacolm for many years but had been unsuccessful in previous attempts to achieve planning consent for residential development. streets-UK were appointed in 2019 to undertake extensive and detailed consultation in relation to a new application for 75 homes, fully engaging with all households, businesses and community groups, including those strongly opposed to the proposals. As well as addressing concerns of opponents where possible, streets-UK helped identify the many ‘quiet supporters’ of the proposals who are concerned at the lack of affordable homes for families and opportunities to downsize within the village.

Although permission was initially granted by Inverclyde Council in 2021, the application was then ‘called in’ by Scottish Government. They have since endorsed the application, stating that ‘the adverse impacts of the proposed development would not outweigh the benefits’. Mactaggart & Mickel and the Council are currently seeking to finalise a separate legal agreement which will deliver some of the additional benefits identified by streets-UK in the consultation process, including an element of social housing and a contribution.
