streets-UK is currently supporting Aberdeen City Council and its design teams in the creation and delivery of an overarching engagement strategy for the design development and implementation of this transformational regeneration of Aberdeen’s city centre, former market, and beach front.
The multi-million projects include changes to Union Street Central, the creation of a new city market, a mini masterplan for George Street and the revitalisation of the beach area, with plans for a pier, new green hub, and a state-of-the-art sports area which could include a new stadium for Aberdeen FC. As well as comprising a multitude of physical interventions with differing timescales, there are strong interdependencies of many of the work packages as well as stakeholders and communities common to multiple projects. This requires them to be sequenced together and for all engagement activities to be robustly co-ordinated and planned.
The over-arching engagement strategy ensures consistency of messaging and pro-active, timeous engagement with all sectors of the Aberdeen community including a specific and detailed plan for engagement with Children and Young People. This enables support for the project to be built on and also provides the Council’s in house PR team with key communication milestones.
